Help
Partly workingA person who knows payroll, and answers that cite the rule they come from.
What happens when I do not know what a number means?
Today: an answer written down in advance. There are thirty-odd questions answered in plain language, and the ones about tax say plainly that we are not the ones to ask.
What is not built is a person. Payroll support that is worth having is somebody who knows payroll rather than somebody reading a script, and answers that cite the rule they come from rather than asserting a conclusion. That is a hiring problem more than a software one.
In the meantime the product is written to need less support: every figure says where it came from, every blocked step says what it is waiting on, and anything simulated is labelled where it appears rather than in a footnote.
What works today
- Forty-seven questions answered in plain language, searchable
- Plain-language explanations attached to the figures themselves
- An honest statement of what is simulated, wherever a simulated number appears
What does not, and why
Support from somebody who knows payroll
People. This is a hiring question rather than a software one.
Answers that cite the rule they come from
The same authoritative rule data the tax provider would bring.
Help inside the product, in context
Not started. Today the explanations live next to the figures themselves rather than in a help panel you have to go and open.
Every line in this area
The same catalogue the pricing table is built from, filtered to this area. One list, one set of markers, everywhere.
- Works today
The questions people ask, answered in advance
Plain answers, including the uncomfortable ones, and a refusal to guess where we are not qualified — worker classification, or whether a threshold applies to you.
- Planned
Support from someone who knows payroll
On every plan, including the free one.
- Planned
A named person to call
The same one each time, who already knows your set-up.
Read the markers, not the length of the list
Anything marked planned or being built is not working today and is not charged for. Moving money needs a licensed partner and filing needs a status granted by each tax authority — neither is a matter of writing more code, and neither is claimed here.
