Getting set up
Everything here works todayEleven steps in the order they depend on each other, saving as you go.
What do I have to do before I can pay anybody?
Eleven steps, in the order they genuinely depend on each other. There is nowhere to put a pay schedule before there is a legal entity, and no pay date to choose before there is a schedule — so the checklist will not let you start a step whose prerequisite is missing, and says which one it is waiting on rather than greying itself out silently.
Four questions at the beginning change the list. Say this is your first payroll and a fifteen-minute step about prior wages disappears entirely, because it does not apply to you. Say you have run payroll elsewhere this year and it appears, because getting it wrong means a W-2 that does not reconcile.
Every step saves as you go and every step tells you roughly how long it takes before you start it. Set-up gets abandoned in the middle far more often than it gets abandoned at the start, and almost always because somebody opened a step without knowing it needed a document they did not have to hand.

What it looks like
Photographed from the running application, not drawn. Every name and figure in them is invented.

What works today
- The full eleven-step checklist, with prerequisites enforced rather than suggested
- The four intake questions, and the shorter checklist they produce
- Company details, addresses, signatory, pay schedule and first pay date
- Adding your team one at a time, or importing a file
- Leaving halfway through and coming back to exactly where you were
What does not, and why
Prior payroll for this year, imported from your last provider
The year-to-date figures a W-2 has to reconcile against, which is a data problem rather than a form.
Bank account verification
A money-movement partner. Nothing verifies a real bank account today.
Every line in this area
The same catalogue the pricing table is built from, filtered to this area. One list, one set of markers, everywhere.

Guided company set-up
Eleven steps in the order they actually depend on each other, each one saying how long it takes and why it is needed before you start it.
- Works today
Set-up that adapts to your answers
Four questions at the start change the checklist. Say this is your first payroll and a fifteen-minute step disappears entirely.
- Works today
Addresses checked as you type
Real addresses offered while you type, then verified as deliverable against the postal service rather than merely tidied up.
- Works today
Your own logo on your company
Upload it once and it appears everywhere the company does — the switcher, the sidebar, and every document that carries your name.

Works properly on a phone
Not a shrunken desktop. Every screen is built for a 390-pixel phone first, because that is where a lot of this actually gets done.
Read the markers, not the length of the list
Anything marked planned or being built is not working today and is not charged for. Moving money needs a licensed partner and filing needs a status granted by each tax authority — neither is a matter of writing more code, and neither is claimed here.
