Tax and compliance

Partly working

Registrations, filings and deadlines, tracked against the calendar they fall on.

Who is actually filing my payroll taxes?

Not us, today — and that is the most important sentence on this page.

Working out withholding correctly means current federal, state and local rules for every place each person lives and works, kept current as they change mid-year, against their filing status and their year-to-date wages. Filing means being a registered reporting agent, granted separately by each jurisdiction. Neither is code that can be written; both are relationships that have to be contracted.

What this area does today is record: which jurisdictions you have registered with, what each worker elected on their W-4 or its state equivalent, and where the gaps are. We store what you tell us and never interpret what it means. When a provider is connected, the same records become its inputs.

What it looks like

Photographed from the running application, not drawn. Every name and figure in them is invented.

The taxes page, stating that nothing is calculated or filed, above the registrations on file.
The page opens by saying what it does not do. Below that is what has actually been recorded, and what each missing piece would require.

What works today

  • Recording tax registrations per jurisdiction, with their status
  • Storing withholding elections exactly as the worker stated them
  • Showing which jurisdictions have elections on file and which do not

What does not, and why

  • Calculating withholding

A vetted tax-data provider under contract, kept current as rules change.

  • Filing returns and remitting payments

    Reporting-agent status, granted per jurisdiction.

  • W-2 and 1099 forms at year end

A full year of real pay runs, which needs the two above.

  • Deadline tracking against the filing calendar

The filing obligations that come with being an agent.

Every line in this area

The same catalogue the pricing table is built from, filtered to this area. One list, one set of markers, everywhere.

  • Federal and state tax filing

Filed on time from the figures you approved, through a licensed filing partner. Acting as your reporting agent is a status granted by the tax authorities, not something software can assert.

    Planned
  • Withholding from a vetted provider

Tax figures come from an authoritative provider under contract. We will never guess at a rate, and a rate we cannot verify is shown as unavailable rather than estimated.

    Planned
  • W-2s and 1099s at year end

Prepared, filed and delivered to the people they belong to.

    Planned
  • Multi-state work locations

People working in more than one state, recorded properly from the start.

    Works today
  • Reasonable salary calculator

What an owner-operator should pay themselves, shown with the reasoning and the sources rather than as a number to take on faith.

    Planned
  • S corp election and compliance

The election itself, the deadlines attached to it, and the owner self-pay that has to follow from it.

    Planned

Read the markers, not the length of the list

Anything marked planned or being built is not working today and is not charged for. Moving money needs a licensed partner and filing needs a status granted by each tax authority — neither is a matter of writing more code, and neither is claimed here.
